Level Up is designed to help you find your path.
Alongside developing your own work, you’ll get the structure, guidance and community to work out where you want to go and what you need to do to get there. You’ll learn from experienced industry professionals, receive feedback, build your profile and connect with other writers navigating their own journeys.
Because the goal isn’t to put every writer on the same path. It’s to help you find the one that moves you forward.

Hi, I'm John!
I’m a screenwriter, producer and university lecturer, and I created Level Up because after more than a decade of teaching screenwriting to hundreds of students globally, I’ve become convinced of one thing:
EVERYONE CAN HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE
No matter where you live, what your life challenges are, there is a space at the table for every screenwriter to tell their story to the world. We started OutWrd so we could build an exhibition platform for those writers and now we've started Level Up to support writers and help them go even further.
Every writer comes to the industry with different ambitions, experience, strengths and circumstances. But that requires more than general career advice. It requires guidance that takes into account the individual writer and where they are trying to go.
Level Up isn't about teaching you how to be a great screenwriter. It's about helping you find your seat at the table based on your own needs, limitations or specific goals.
I’m Dr John Finnegan, Senior Lecturer in Screenwriting at Falmouth University and Programme Leader for the MA Writing for Script & Screen. I hold a PhD in screenwriting studies and have spent my 20+ year career, writing, teaching, researching and working in script development and professional practice.
I’m also the founder and Creative Director of OutWrd, where we develop and produce original work with writers and creative professionals.
Level Up brings those two sides of my career together: developing writers and developing careers.
There may not be one route into the industry, but that doesn’t mean you have to figure out yours alone.
